Authenticity & Protection

Counterfeits have gotten good enough that a naked-eye check isn't enough, and the more a card is worth, the more likely someone has tried. Every card that reaches us is authenticated before it is graded, and anything we find to be fake is rejected outright.

Then we seal it. The slab is closed with ultrasonic welding, so the card cannot be removed or swapped without visibly destroying the case. Whoever holds that slab next can be certain the card inside is the one we graded.

Market Value

Condition is most of what a card is worth, and condition stays an argument until someone settles it. One collector's near mint is another's lightly played, and that gap is where deals fall apart.

A PCG grade settles it with four subgrades rather than one number. Centering, corners, edges and surface are scored separately, so the grade on the label can be explained rather than just accepted. Every grade we issue goes into our Population Report, where anyone can see how a card sits against every other copy we've graded.

We grade cards and nothing else. We don't buy, sell or deal, so we hold no position in anything that passes through us and nothing to gain from a grade landing high or low. Every card is held to the same standard.

Sentimental & Display

Not every card is graded for what it's worth. Plenty come in because of where they came from: a childhood pull, a gift, the first serial you won at a tournament.

Those cards deserve a slab worth looking at. The Collector Slab carries a double-sided metal label, gold plated at the top grades. The Player's Slab holds the card in a tighter case with the front left completely clear, for a card you still want to play with. Either way the card is sealed exactly as it reached us.
